YOUNG ARTIST LATE BITE: August 20
Scottish Soprano Katy Thomson began singing as a chorister at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh, at the age of eight. She currently lives in London and studies with Janis Kelly, having recently graduated from The Royal College of Music Opera Studio. She has been awarded a place on L’Accademia del Bel Canto “Rudolf Celletti” in association with the Festival della Valle d’Itria (postponed to Autumn 2020) and was due to be a 2020 Leeds Lieder Young Artist (festival cancelled due to Covid-19).
Operatic roles at the RCM included Lia in Debussy’s L’Enfant Prodigue and Lady Dunmow in Lennox Berkeley’s A Dinner Engagement. Other recent performance highlights include: Soprano soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Cadogan Hall; Welsh National Opera Soprano soloist with NEW Sinfonia at the North Wales International Music Festival and Soprano soloist for the Slaithewaite Philharmonic Orchestra ‘New Year Tour’ to China (January 2020).
Katy was awarded the Czech Song Prize at the 2019 Emmy Destinn Young Singers Awards, as well as competing in the final of the Brooks Van der Pump English Song and Joan Chisell Schumann competitions at the RCM.
