PROM 18: August 3
Lorna Anderson was born in Glasgow and studied at the RSAMD (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) with Patricia MacMahon and at the Royal College of Music. She enjoys a busy and varied career in concert, recital and chamber music, often with particular emphasis on the baroque and classical repertoire. Her numerous recordings include Messiah, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, Haydn Masses with Richard Hickox and, for Hyperion, she has recorded Britten folksong settings with Malcolm Martineau, Handel’s L’Allegro with The King’s Consort and is part of Hyperion’s complete Schubert Edition. In addition, she has recorded Haydn’s complete folksong arrangements with Haydn Trio Eisenstadt to celebrate Haydn’s bicentenary and also a new work by James MacMillan, commissioned to mark the same occasion. Recordings of Poulenc songs and a Debussy disc for Hyperion have more recently been released as well as Faure songs, part of another ‘complete’ edition, all accompanied by Malcolm Martineau.
