RICHARD LEWIS

Pianist

PROM 63: September 2

Richard Lewis, a prize-winner at Trinity College of Music, London studied piano with Denis Matthews, Alfred Kitchin and later Peter Feuchtwanger. He also read music at St. John’s College, Cambridge. At the beginning of his solo career, Richard performed nationally, including a series of seven recitals at Leighton House, Holland Park, plus performances of Ravel’s G Minor Concerto and Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto at St John’s Smith Square

In 1994, Richard had a change of direction entering into Christian ministry in taking up the role of Music Director at Kensington Temple, London and ore latterly Cardiff City Temple. He has had numerous Gospel songs and CDs published. In recent years he has made a return to the concert platform and the combination of his work in both realms causes him to travel internationally, recently performing Rachmaninoff’s 3rd concerto and also Mozart’s Concerto K. 595 with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gerben Grooten (where he was lauded for magically weaving the South African National Anthem into the cadenza!), and also recitals in the UK, France and the Middle East
